Purpose: protein + carbs for energy · Nutrix Score: 7/10

Makes: 1 serving · Prep time: 2 minutes · Cook time: about 5 minutes (reheat)

Ingredients

  • 1–1½ cups leftover baked ziti (whole wheat pasta, ground turkey, marinara, and mozzarella)
  • Optional: a small side salad

Directions

  1. Reheat. Microwave in a covered bowl for 1–2 minutes, stir, then heat another 30–60 seconds if needed. Or warm in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water.
  2. Serve. Plate with a small side salad if using, and eat right away.

Make-ahead and dorm-friendly options

  • Leftovers keep in the fridge for 3–4 days and freeze well. Reheat only the amount you will eat.
  • Works in a microwave if you do not have a stove.

Heavy training or game day

Add a piece of fruit or a larger side salad so lunch carries the athlete through a long afternoon.

Food safety reminder

Reheat leftover baked ziti until steaming hot, and do not leave it at room temperature for more than two hours.
